Sword Swallower, Original Framed Painting
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” - Hebrews 4:12
Taking inspiration from the circus, I made this girl dressed in a wonderful emerald green, Rococo-vintage dress, into a sword swallower. Her intestines show through the torso of her dress (inspired my Mark Ryden) illustrating the fact that the sword would go down “to her innermost being.” The sword is a symbol of the Word of God, as shown in the verse above. It passes down past our surface level and divides our soul and spirit to show us who we really are, and who God really is. The funhouse/theater setting behind the girl shows that she is part of a living story. I always love visualizing the drama and “romanticizing” life when you can.
This oil painting on canvas panel is 8” x 10,” including the frame it measures 9.5” x 11.5.” The painting is varnished with a matte finish and has wire hanging on the back. It ships by the artist with a certificate of authenticity, and shipping is included in the price.
